Prof. Ivan PAVLENKO, DSc., Ing. Paed. IGIP, Professor of the Department of Computational Mechanics named after V. Martsynkovskyy, Vice Dean for Scientific Work at the Faculty of Technical Systems and Energy Efficient Technologies, Head of the Coordinating Council, Sumy State University, Ukraine.
He is an expert of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on the State Certification of Higher Education Institutions, the Scientific Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and the National Research Foundation of Ukraine.
Prof. Pavlenko was awarded the Scholarship of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (2016–2018), “The Best Scientist of the Year” by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2022), the National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (2017, 2019, 2022), and Erasmus+ programmes (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022). He participated in projects funded by the Czech Development Agency (2018) and the DAAD programme (2021).
In 2021 – Head of the R&D project “Development of prospective designs of pumping equipment for the use of atomic energy blocks of Ukraine with increased vibration reliability and energy efficiency”. In 2022 – included in Elsevier’s list of the TOP 2% of the world’s most cited scientists.
Prof. Pavlenko is a member of the Program Committees of international scientific conferences, Editorial Boards’ member and invited reviewer of international scientific journals worldwide. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the open-access peer-reviewed scientific journal “Journal of Engineering Sciences” (ISSN 2312-2498).
The author of about 100 scientific publications indexed by Scopus and Web of Science. Recent developments concern parameter identification of hydrodynamic processes and ensuring vibration reliability of rotary machines by comprehensively applying numerical simulation approaches and artificial intelligence systems.
Abstract:
An increase in the capacity of nuclear power plants is directly related to improving pumping equipment’s energy efficiency, including main circulating pumps, feed pumps, pumps for cooling systems, etc. Simultaneously, the increased requirements for their safety should be completely satisfied. Therefore, the research aims to ensure the energy efficiency and vibration reliability of centrifugal pumps for nuclear power plants. Numerical calculations comprehensively apply methods for parameter identification of hydromechanical systems and finite element analysis. As a result of data analysis, critical speeds and cyclic stresses within rotor oscillations for a multistage centrifugal machine have been evaluated. Based on the results of analytical and numerical calculations, the computer software for evaluating energy efficiency and vibration reliability has been applied for the comprehensive hydromechanical system “rotor – gap seals – bearing supports”. Overall, improved designs and technological solutions for an increase in energy efficiency and vibration reliability of multistage centrifugal pumps for power plants have been proposed.
Ján Piteľ
Title: Research on digitalization in smart experimental manufacturing system

Ján Piteľ (*1961) is a full professor in automation at the Technical University of Košice (Slovakia) and he currently works at the Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies with a seat in Prešov as a faculty vice-dean. His research activities include modelling, simulation, automatic control, and monitoring of machines and processes. He is the author of almost 100 scientific papers registered in databases WoS and Scopus with more than 500 SCI citations. He is an inventor and co-inventor of more than 70 patents and utility models. He was a leader in many national projects (e.g. EU Structural Funds projects), and one H2020 experimental project and currently he participates in one EC funded project (Horizon Europe).
Ján Piteľ received his degree of Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Košice (1985). After a period of employment in the industry (1985-1992) as a research and development worker of robot control systems, he joined the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Košice as an academic teacher and researcher in 1992. He received his PhD degree in Automation and Control (2004) based on the doctoral thesis on heating process control. In 2005 he joined the Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies of the Technical University of Košice where in 2008 he defended his habilitation thesis „Automation of Manufacturing Technologies Using Manipulators Actuated by Artificial Muscles“. In 2017 he was appointed by the President of the Czech Republic as a professor in Machine and Process Control at the Tomas Bata University in Zlín (Czech Republic).
Abstract:
The experimental smart manufacturing system for Industry 4.0 concept named SmartTechLab has been designed and realized at the Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies of the Technical University of Košice with the purpose to support research and educational activities in the field of digitalization and automation of production processes. In this experimental system, there are implemented advanced manufacturing technologies (3D printing, rapid prototyping) and robotics technologies (industrial and collaborative robots) supported by technologies for full digitalization (digital twin, cloud platforms), quality and process control (advanced control, vision systems, and RFID/IIoT product identification). An important part of this experimental system is technologies based on artificial intelligence (machine and deep learning) for parts and product recognition and technologies using virtual/augmented and mixed reality to support an assembly process. Full digitalization of such a system is very important for quality control operations and also for proper control to increase the effectiveness of the production process. Suitable technologies for fast digitalization, data transfer, data storage, and finally data mining have to be used.
Vladimír Vašek
Title: The role of the Regional Research Center CEBIA-Tech at TBU in Zlín

Vladimír Vašek (*1948) is a full professor of automation at the Tomáš Bata University in Zlín (Czech Republic). He currently works at the Faculty of Applied Informatics as vice-dean of the faculty, director of the Institute of Automation and Control Technology, and as director of the CEBIA-Tech Regional Research Center. His research activities include modelling, simulation, automatic control, especially discrete control using all types of computer technology, as well as machine and process monitoring. He is the author of approximately 200 scientific papers registered in WoS and Scopus databases with approximately 400 citations. He is the author or co-author of approximately 40 patents and utility models. He was the responsible solver of many smaller and larger national scientific research projects. Vladimír Vašek received a Master of Science degree in the field of Instrumentation, Control, and Automation Technology at the VUT in Brno in 1973. He then worked at the Faculty of Technology at the VUT located in Zlín as an assistant and subsequently after obtaining the CSc. degree as an academic and scientific researcher at the same faculty in the field of automation of production processes. In 1990, he defended his habilitation thesis at VŠB-TU Ostrava in the field of Automation of Machines and Technological Processes, and in 2003 he was appointed by the President of the Czech Republic as a professor in the field of Machine and Process Control at the Tomáš Bata University in Zlín. In the years 2006 – 2014, he worked as the founding dean of the newly established Faculty of Applied Informatics of TUB in Zlín, and in 2012 he became the director of the Regional Research Center CEBIA-Tech.
Abstract:
The Center for Security, Information and Advanced Technologies (CEBIA-Tech) was established as a research unit for the dynamic development of research, development and innovation in the Zlín region in the field of applied informatics, security technologies and alternative energy sources. Its organizational structure is covered by the staff of the Faculty of Applied Informatics (FAI) of the Tomas Bata University in Zlín. The Center was created on the basis of solution the project of the European program Research and Development for Innovation in 2011 with the following key goals: ensure high-quality instrumentation and laboratory equipment for the workplace, develop cooperation with regional companies operating in the subject fields of the Center with a focus on the growth of contractual and collaborative research based mainly on the solution of joint projects that are based on the needs of companies and are solved with the financial support of the state and the EU, making all study degrees at the Faculty of Applied Informatics by involving new laboratories, but also students in the activities of the Center’s research teams, and last but not least, to increase the level of R&D outputs of the faculty. The key directions are implemented within the framework of three main research programs, each of which is secured by a team of scientific and research workers of different categories (head of the research program, senior researcher, junior researcher, Ph.D. student). The new research workplace was created both, in the existing premises of the Faculty of Applied Informatics and also in the premises of the Science and Technology Park of Information and Communication Technologies, whose activity is focused on the field of information and communication technologies and was built in close proximity to the FAI.
